Conflict within APC: Adamu and Omisore Hold Meeting with Tinubu at Aso Rock

In the heart of the political storm that engulfed the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), two prominent figures, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Iyiola Omisore, found themselves stepping down from their esteemed positions as National Chairman and Secretary, respectively. This unexpected turn of events came to light last week, just days before the scheduled National Caucus and National Executive Council (NEC) meetings, which were slated to take place on Monday 18 and Tuesday 19 July, respectively.

The atmosphere in the political arena was tense, with speculations and rumors running rampant. On a seemingly ordinary Tuesday, the air inside the presidential villa, Abuja, crackled with anticipation as the embattled former party leaders made their way to meet with none other than President Bola Tinubu behind closed doors. The meeting held the promise of illuminating the reasons behind their abrupt resignations, as both Adamu and Omisore were allegedly compelled to relinquish their influential positions.

The inner workings of the meeting remained veiled in secrecy, with no official confirmation of its purpose. However, political pundits and observers couldn't help but surmise that the gathering was part of a concerted effort to navigate the party through the storm and address the pressing issues concerning its leadership.

Prior to the meeting, when rumors about their resignations began to circulate, the former Chairman, Senator Adamu, strategically chose silence, declaring that he would refrain from making any public statements until President Tinubu, who had been away in Nairobi, Kenya, returned to the country. This decision only heightened the intrigue surrounding the situation.

Despite the conspicuous silence from Adamu and Omisore themselves regarding their purported resignations, the Acting National Chairman, Abubakar Kyari, who previously held the position of Deputy National Chairman (North), stepped forward to confirm the news. During a press conference following a meeting of the party's National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, Kyari made a formal announcement, stating that both leaders had indeed resigned from their esteemed positions.

In line with the provisions of the All Progressives Congress (APC) constitution, the responsibility of leading the party in their absence fell upon the shoulders of Abubakar Kyari, who now assumed the role of acting National Chairman. Similarly, Festus Fuantar, the Deputy National Secretary, was tasked with serving as the acting National Secretary.

To address the immediate ramifications of this leadership change, the planned National Caucus meeting scheduled for the 18th of July and the National Executive Committee meetings, originally set for the 19th of July, were postponed indefinitely. The new date for these crucial gatherings was yet to be communicated, further adding an air of anticipation and uncertainty to the political landscape.

As the nation's attention remained fixated on the unfolding events within the APC, the consequences of these resignations and the subsequent realignment of leadership held the potential to shape the political landscape for the foreseeable future. For now, the political stage was set for intrigue, negotiations, and strategic maneuvering, and only time would reveal the true impact of this watershed moment in the ruling party's history.
