Senate Leader Confirms the Readiness of Tinubu's Ministerial List for Thursday Announcement

In a highly anticipated moment, the Ministerial List of President Bola Tinubu was about to be revealed to the Senate. The news came from none other than the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Michael Opeyemi Bamidele. It was during a grand occasion in Abuja, where the senator was celebrating his Diamond Jubilee Birthday and launching his book.

Senator Bamidele had an air of excitement as he shared the special revelation. President Tinubu himself had called Bamidele earlier in the morning, as he turned 60, and conveyed that within the next 48 hours, the Senate would receive a crucial correspondence from him. This was the reason why the President regretfully couldn't attend the birthday lecture and book presentation; he needed to focus on this important matter.

Recalling the conversation with President Tinubu, Senator Bamidele quoted him as saying, "Let me tell you, and you must encourage me, I need to make myself unavailable for the next 48 hours because a correspondence must come to the Senate, a very crucial correspondence." The Senator shared the President's request for prayers from Nigerians, seeking support in making the right decisions for the nation within the next 24 hours. Tinubu hoped that when Nigerians heard the list of his ministers, they would recognize it as something exceptional and uncommon. He sought prayers to be away from any undue influence in this critical process.

Amidst the excitement of the upcoming ministerial list, the guest lecturer and former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Prof. Toyin Ogundipe, addressed a matter of national concern during the event. He raised concerns about the high cost of governance and the luxurious lifestyle of political office-holders. Prof. Ogundipe emphasized the need for sacrifice on the part of politicians, asserting that ordinary Nigerians could only follow suit when leaders set an example.

As an illustration, the professor pointed out that both the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and Vehicle Inspection Officers (VIOs) were part of the President and Vice President's convoy. In his view, these entities were redundant alongside the police in such situations, and their presence only contributed to the extravagance of the convoys. He urged political office-holders to reduce the number of vehicles in their entourages to demonstrate empathy and understanding of the citizens' struggles during difficult times.

Turning to the issue of insecurity in Nigeria, Prof. Ogundipe highlighted that it was a global problem. He noted that other countries, which often criticize Nigeria's situation, experienced higher crime rates but controlled the narrative due to their control of the cyber space.

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, also took the stage and expressed his concern about the recurring pattern among Nigerian Governors. He lamented that governors tended to immediately engage in conflicts with their predecessors upon assuming office. However, in a positive light, he commended Senator Bamidele for his unwavering loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the past three decades. From serving as an aide to the President in the National Assembly in 1992 to this momentous occasion, Bamidele's steadfast support was worthy of celebration.

Akpabio cited examples of past governors like Senator Adams Oshiohmole and Senator Adamu Aliero, who had conflicts with their successors in Edo and Kebbi States, respectively. The Ekiti State Governor, on the other hand, stood out as an exemplary leader for maintaining a harmonious relationship with his predecessor.

The event was filled with anticipation, appreciation, and calls for responsible governance, as Nigeria eagerly awaited the unveiling of President Tinubu's Ministerial List and hoped for a positive and transformative administration.
